Weymouth, Great Britain

April 15, 2023

Today, after our walk together around Weymouth, Great Britain, Brent took a tour of the Tank Museum in Bovington to see over 300 tanks and other military machines used in key battles from World War II to the modern day.

Our day began with the ship coming into to port at Portland (not Oregon). We had missed our stop in Brest, France the day before because of rough seas.

We hopped on a shuttle and went to the seaside town of Weymouth to wander around. We didn't stop at the castle, but did see it on our way into town.

The shuttle dropped us off a little outside of the downtown area. We just had a short walk before we crossed over the bridge and wandered through the streets of the town looking for a place for tea and crumpets. However, we decided to split a Cornish pasty instead from a tempting shop selling all kinds of meat pies. After exploring the shops, we headed to the beach area which had a sandcastle exhibit advertising Sandworld and a few carnival rides along the boardwalk. Weymouth's sand is perfect for building sand sculptures as the grains of sand have a slight angle to them which help them stick together.

We headed back to the ship a little before noon so Brent would be in time for his afternoon tour of the tank museum, and I could work on my passages for my writing project.

Brent enjoyed a nice drive through the countryside on his way to the Tank Museum.

At the tank museum, he was able to learn about many pivotal battles and how the tanks were operated. It was a tight fit for the soldiers inside them! He also got to don a uniform the British soldiers wore.

I had not seen beaches in England - looks nice! I bet it was crowded in those tanks!
